Major Gifts Officer
Department: Development
Reports To: Vice President, Individual Giving
Purpose of Position: To secure private sector funding from individuals for the operation and growth of Covenant House. This position will play a key role in the overall growth of philanthropic support and individual giving.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive major gift strategy that will effectively identify, cultivate and steward a portfolio of major gift prospects with the ability to make gifts of $10,000 and above.
- Develop and implement solicitation strategies for prospects, while concurrently cultivating and soliciting current donors for gift renewal and upgrade. Utilize planned giving strategies as appropriate.
- Carry a portfolio of about 150-200 prospects at any given time. Portfolio will include current major donors for upgrade and prospects identified with major gift potential.
- Meet monthly, quarterly and annual activity goals based on a comprehensive moves management system and annual monetary target goals based on the giving capacity of the portfolio.
- Will support the President and Senior Vice President's success in the principal gift effort focused on prospects with the capacity to make multi-year commitments of $1 million or more and assist in the identification, engagement and solicitation of prospects in existing and emerging geographical markets where there is significant major gift potential.
- Work with the President, Senior Vice President for Development, Vice President for Individual Giving, Individual Giving Team, Vice President for Direct Response and the Covenant House sites in order to identify individual giving prospects and major gift strategies.
- Work with appropriate internal staff to ensure that information regarding donors and prospects learned in the course of cultivation and solicitation is added to the information system.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 5 years of successful fundraising experience.
- Proven experience in major individual gift fundraising with a knowledge of planned giving.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills and the ability to travel extensively.
- Organized, personable, creative, focused and able to adapt well to many circumstances.
- Knowledge of individual fundraising and major gift work is preferred.
