Covenant House Michigan
Since 1997, Covenant House Michigan has provided help to more than 20,000 youth. In 1997, Covenant House Michigan opened two Community Service Centers and the Covenant House Job Development Center within the City of Detroit.
In 1999, the Archdiocese of Detroit offered a 5.3 acre site which Covenant House Michigan transformed into a campus that houses two residential programs, a dining and recreation center and administrative offices. Services include:
Crisis Care
A 45-bed facility that is open 24-hours a day, seven days a week providing around-the-clock help to homeless young adults. Youth may remain at the facility for up to three months depending on individual needs. They are given immediate short-term help including food, clothing, a warm bed and crisis counseling.
Street Outreach
Six nights a week, the Outreach staff visits some of the most distressed neighborhoods in Detroit, reaching out to the young people trying to survive on the streets. These disconnected kids are found in abandoned houses, cars, and on street corners.
Outreach counselors provide on-the-spot assistance such as food, personal hygiene kits and/or minor medical attention. Many of these young adults need additional assistance and referrals, in which case they are transported to the Community Service Centers or the Crisis Center.
Rights of Passage
Residents remain in the Rights of Passage transitional living program for up to two years. The 30-bed program offers young people a safe and stable environment in which to learn the life skills necessary for independent living.
