Covenant House New York
Incorporated in 1972, Covenant House New York is the nation's largest private agency serving homeless, runaway and at-risk youth. Each year nearly 7,000 youth seek assistance at Covenant House New York 24-hour Crisis and Community Centers for safety, shelter, food, and counseling. Covenant House New York offers a comprehensive array of services including:
Crisis Care
Crisis centers provide emergency shelter for homeless youth under the age of 21. Immediate needs including shelter, food, and clothing are provided at intake. Residents generally stay at the Crisis Center for up to 30 days while referrals are made to long-term transitional living programs, such as the Rights of Passage program.
Street Outreach
The Outreach program operates six nights a week throughout all five boroughs of New York City. These efforts target youth who might not come to Covenant House New York on their own.
Community Service Centers
In 1993, Covenant House New York established Community Service Centers to provide young people with support and services in their own communities. Counseling, referrals, educational and vocational programs, medical services, legal services, youth leadership opportunities and outreach services for young people on the streets are provided at the Centers. All services are provided to youth at no cost.
Rights of Passage
A long-term transitional living program offering a broad range of support services to homeless youth ages 18-21. Residents participate in educational and vocational programs, learn independent living skills, receive counseling services, and develop a plan for permanent housing.
