Bordered by the United States to the north and Belize and Guatemala to the south, Mexico has a population of over 107 million people. Mexico City, the capital, itself is home to over 19 million. Today, Mexico is a country of contrast, where affluence and extreme poverty exist side by side. Covenant House Mexico, known locally as Casa Alianza, not only helps homeless kids find their way off the dangerous streets, we also give them the skills they need for a future filled with hope. Many of the kids we help are victims of human trafficking, sexual abuse, or have addiction problems. Many are HIV positive.
Covenant House Mexico has a well developed multi-disciplinary team. We provide three levels of residential care at our Cenzontle Boys’ Community and Quetzal Girls Community. CH Mexico also partners with SEDAC to provide care for pregnant and parenting young mothers at our Dove Home.
Our Crisis Care, Stabilization, and Independent Living programs help our kids progress from simply having their most basic needs met to receiving the job training that teaches them to be productive members of society.
As an added resource to help kids suffering on the streets, Acercatel is a 24-hour telephone hotline for youth in crisis. Acercatel provides emotional support, information, counseling, referrals, and crisis intervention for young people facing a variety of problems including family conflict and sexual trafficking. Last year Acercatel responded to more than 13,000 crisis calls.
