Helping Homeless Kids in New Orleans

Covenant House New Orleans seeks to rebuild and reunite families whenever possible. We offer youth the opportunity and the tools they need to build healthy, independent, and productive lives.

Covenant House New Orleans continues to be the only provider in New Orleans of services to homeless and at-risk youth in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. On any given night, we shelter an average of 75 homeless kids in our 70-bed Crisis Center and two transitional living residences. Since opening in 1984, we have touched the lives of more than 17,000 youth, providing them with food, shelter, clothing, medical attention, individual and family counseling, substance abuse management, educational assistance, vocational and job training, living skills, and so much more.

Covenant House New Orleans offers a comprehensive array of educational, job training, and employment programs to bear at this crucial juncture between a dismal past and a promising future for our kids. Our young people return to high school or attain their GED's and are guided by certified teachers and volunteer educators who serve as tutors and instructors.

Our on-staff psychologist conducts individual and group counseling for anyone in need, including kids referred from our outreach program, and anyone in the community who has been affected by disaster.

Permanent Supportive Housing allows young people with disabilities to have a safe and secure place to live, so that they can focus on the other challenges they face with the assistance of case management. The Permanent Supportive Housing Program is designed to help single young people as well as young people with children. The disorders range from Schizophrenia to Developmental Disabilities.
