Today Sherry has completed three semesters at Wayne Community College. She is majoring in the sciences and maintaining a 3.6 average. At Rights of Passage, she has been able to concentrate on school, apply for student grants, get a job and save money. Last January we said a joyful but tearful good-by to Sherry as she left for Central Michigan University. She entered as a sophomore and lives at the dorm. Work study covers her personal expenses. Next year she will test for pre-med.
Her parting words to all of the Covenant House Michigan family were: "Thank you so much for making it possible for there to be a Covenant House Michigan. No one pre-judges us here. You give us the tools to be all that we can be. I learned a great deal here. I leave with all that I need to keep on track until I reach my goals. You kept me close enough to protect me but you also gave me enough freedom to do what I needed to do in order to move forward. I will never forget Covenant House Michigan and all you have done for me and I know that I can still come to you for help or just someone to talk to."
