Who to call for help

1. CALL THE NATIONAL AND LOCAL HOTLINES to check for messages. Leave a message if the hotline accepts messages from parents (not all do). The toll free numbers in the U.S. where messages are taken are NINELINE 1-800-999-9999 and the National Runaway Switchboard 1-800-621-4000. They can suggest local hotlines if any exist. Runaway hotlines help children find lodging, medical treatment, counseling, etc.

2. CONTACT RUNAWAY SHELTERS in your area and in nearby areas and states. GIVE THEM THE YOUTH'S PHOTOGRAPH. If your child gives an incorrect name and age, it will help identify him/her.

3. CONTACT HOSPITALS, ABORTION CLINICS, DRUG TREATMENT CENTERS, ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, COUNSELING SERVICES IN YOUR AREA.

4. CALL YOUR LOCAL CHILD WELFARE OFFICE FOR INFORMATION.

5. CONTACT CHILD FIND, INC. AT 1-800-426-5678. They provide assistance in locating missing children, and help with photo distribution.
