Prayers for Our Brothers and Sisters in Mexico
The 7.1 earthquake hit Mexico about 75 miles from Mexico City. Our prayers as a Covenant House family go out to all the victims and their families. None of our Covenant House (Casa Alianza) staff or children who were present in our residences in Mexico City have been harmed. The hard news to share at this time is that a significant number of our staff -- the people who love and care for our kids -- are impossible to contact and we do not know if they are hurt. Please pray they return home quickly, and safely.
We are assessing the damage to our programs. Two of the seven shelters in which we care for our kids have been damaged, forcing us to evacuate one of our girls' shelters, in addition to another house where we care for teen moms and their babies.
No one has power and contact with our staff on the ground is very difficult. There are collapsed buildings throughout the City and thousands of people in every direction walking to try to get to their destinations.
Our first priority is to ensure the safety of our kids and staff. Please join us in a prayer for all of them, and all those suffering from the devastation of this earthquake.
