Who we are: Covenant House California (CHC) provides sanctuary and support for youth ages 18-24 facing homelessness and human trafficking. We have three locations: Oakland, Los Angeles, and Berkeley, where we serve a total of 2,395 youth annually. Our programs and services are designed to advance youths’ physical, emotional, educational, vocational, and spiritual well-being and provide them with the best chance for success in independence. All our programs and services are free of charge.
Our shelter: CHC’s emergency shelter in Berkeley is home to our Yeah! program, where young people facing homelessness will find safety and relief from the stress of living on the streets. Our shelter is open seven nights a week, 365 days a year. Youth sleep on mats with fresh sheets, have access to showers, and are served a hot dinner and breakfast.
Our programs: CHC’s Berkeley site provides youth with overnight shelter and may help them reunite with family or move into their own permanent housing. In addition, we provide medical referrals and on-site therapy. YEAH! provides intensive case management and counseling to a select group. Youth get help finding employment; securing permanent, affordable housing; returning to or staying in school; and learning to utilize community resources.
