Be an Angel Day: Spread Kindness and Compassion
What is Be an Angel Day?
Be an Angel Day was established in 1993 on August 22 as a day to encourage people to be angels to those in need.
In many religions, angels are supernatural spirits or beings that protect people. On Be an Angel Day, we can be an angel to someone in need by doing small acts of service that can ultimately be a blessing in their life. It is a day to selflessly do random acts of kindness and to help others in need.
On this day, even though we can’t be actual angels, we can emulate the kindness they are known for and provide the protection they offer.
Will you be an angel for youth facing homelessness?
Why it's important to us?
Because our young people are important to us. The reasons why a young person may walk through our doors are as varied and unique as the youth themselves. Many lack a safe, stable place to call home. These young people face challenges that can interfere with their sense of self and their hopes for the future.
Hunger. A lack of affordable housing. Mental health challenges. Unstable homes. Escaping trafficking. And so much more. Whatever the circumstance, each young person still arrives with their own unique hopes, dreams, and strengths. They are so much more than their circumstances. While the challenges faced by homeless and trafficked youth have always been complex, through recent events (a pandemic, a volatile economy, a chronic lack of affordable housing, and new laws), these challenges have only intensified.
That’s where we come in.
How does Covenant House support young people facing homelessness?
At Covenant House, with the help of our supporters, every youth is greeted with kindness — they are provided with a warm meal, a safe place to sleep, and support during a time when they need a moment of care. Every young person will find acceptance, love, and shelter at Covenant House. Our housing programs give youth the recovery time they need to get back on their feet. Our after-care services give young people the tools to maintain independence in the long run.
Ultimately, we provide youth with a safe space to call home, ensuring essential needs are met while igniting potential, which is essential in their journey toward stability.
