Be an Angel Day: Spread Kindness and Compassion

Be an Angel to Homeless Youth

What is Be an Angel Day?

Be an Angel Day, celebrated annually on August 22nd, was established to encourage acts of kindness and compassion toward others. It was created by Jayne Howard Feldman in 1993 to inspire people to emulate the helpful and caring nature of angels.

Throughout history, angels have been considered divine beings or symbols of goodness —embodying kindness, compassion, and benevolence.

On Be an Angel Day, you can Be an Angel through small acts of service that bring blessings to others. It’s a time to provide comfort and healing to those who face life’s most difficult challenges— and let them know they are seen and cared for.

Will you Be an Angel for youth facing homelessness?

Everyone needs someone watching over them, providing unconditional love and care. That’s exactly how the Cov Community supports young people facing the crisis of homelessness.

Our young people mean so much to us. We are here to help keep them safe, provide spiritual and physical healing, guide them on their journeys, and fight for an end to youth homelessness as we know it.

Whatever angels mean to you as a Covenant House supporter, there is a way to emulate their qualities. That’s why we celebrate Be an Angel Day and come together on this day to reach even more young people who have no safe place to call home.

Why do young people come to Covenant House?

Youth come to us because they face hunger, a lack of affordable-for-youth housing, mental health challenges, dangerous or unstable homes — some are even escaping human trafficking.

Often, these young people are struggling with trauma or fear, both of which can dim their sense of self-confidence and their hopes for the future.

But whatever their circumstances, each young person arrives with their own hopes, dreams, and strengths. They just need safety, care, skills, and people who believe in them. That’s where we come in.

How does Covenant House support young people facing homelessness?

Every youth is welcomed with unconditional love — they’re given a warm meal, a safe place to sleep, and support at a time when they need it most. With us, every young person will find acceptance, love, and shelter.

Beyond meeting their immediate needs, we provide youth with educational opportunities, job training, and transitional housing options that can secure their futures.

Through your belief in our young people, they can unlock their potential and show up in the world as who they’re meant to be.
