Youth Homelessness Awareness Month
In 2021, the Senate designated November to be Youth Homelessness Awareness Month. Since then, every November we bring together our whole community to confront this crisis head-on. We urge everyone to get loud, take action, and shed light on the issue of youth homelessness.

What Is Covenant House Doing To Address the Crisis of Youth Homelessness?

Safe Housing
Covenant House provided 730,000 nights of safe housing last year. This year, we’ll provide nearly 800,000 nights of housing. The average length of stay in our residential programs is 54 days in our short-term shelter and 264 days in our transitional housing.

Transitional Housing
On average, 73% of youth in our transitional housing program exit to stable housing, and 69% were employed or enrolled in school when they left the program. Transitional housing works!

Workforce Development & Education
Through education and workforce development programs, Covenant House is helping young people achieve stability and independence. Across all sites, 2,800 youth enrolled or remained in school, 2,500 youth gained or maintained employment, and 160 youth obtained a high school diploma or equivalency.

Holistic Health Services
More than 55% of our youth report a mental health issue at intake, which rises to 69% for LGBTQ+ youth. Our holistic approach to health services has led 4,100 youth to engage in on-site mental health services annually.
We can't do this work alone!
No young person should ever have to worry about having a safe place to sleep at night. But the reality is that millions of youth will experience homelessness this year. Support Covenant House to help build and amplify urgently needed solutions to the youth homelessness crisis.
