Zillow Advances Partnership with Covenant House in Connection with New Children’s Book

Zillow advances partnership with Covenant House

Zillow is on a mission to give people the power to unlock life’s next chapter. This active purpose is a natural fit for their partnership with Covenant House and has fueled moments of social impact that address challenges associated with housing. Zillow aims to be a partner in opening up new possibilities, empowering people with knowledge and information and making it easier for people to move. While Zillow knows that moving presents opportunities to grow and thrive, it also comes with complicated emotions bound up with leaving behind beloved friends, neighbors, spaces, and routines. This is especially true for children.

Zillow’s new children’s book, “The Girl Who Didn’t Want to Move,” was written to help parents and their children cope with the fear, doubt, and anxiety that can come with a move. It follows a young girl and her imaginary friends as they navigate a big life change, and find personal growth and happiness at the end. This story shows a deep understanding of how moving makes us vulnerable.

When we talk about moving at Covenant House, we use a trauma-informed approach to help young people and young families understand the complicated emotions that come with leaving the life you know and moving into unfamiliar space. The protagonist in “The Girl Who Didn’t Want To Move” has the support of her parents, and we know not all young people have this privilege. That’s why we rely on Covenant House’s core principles to guide our conversations and actions: Immediacy, Sanctuary, Communication, Structure, and Choice. Covenant House provides the stability and structure necessary to build a positive future, and like Zillow, we believe in giving young people the power to unlock life’s next chapter.

In support of the work we do at Covenant House to help provide safety and stability for young people overcoming homelessness, Zillow is donating all e-book proceeds from downloads of “The Girl Who Didn’t Want To Move.” Zillow will also make a matching donation to Covenant House for each book download, up to $25,000. The e-book is available for download in the Amazon Kindle store, or in PDF format for free in Zillow’s customer resource center.
