Tropical Storm Hilary Brings Record Rainfall and A Rapid Response

Tropical Storm Hilary | Covenant House

As we send our support and prayers for those still in danger due to the historic rainfall from Tropical Storm Hilary, we are very grateful to report that although our Hollywood and Anaheim sites were hit with heavy rain and wind, all of our young people and staff are safe, our power is on, and we’re doing okay.

Thank you to all who sent support and prayers as Tropical Storm Hilary threatened our sites in Southern California. Thanks to your support, we were able to fund emergency food rations, medical supplies, and other essentials as our dedicated staff left their homes and families to weather the storm with our young people. We didn’t know what the storm would bring, and we prepared for the worst.

As the heaviest rain and winds hit our Covenant House programs, Amanda Sattler, one of our committed staff at Covenant House in California, said it best. “Right now our teams are just hunkered down, doing the amazing work they always do.”

Today, 150 young people in our Hollywood and Anaheim programs are safe and feeling loved and valued by a staff that stayed with them during the storm. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be here 24/7 with our young people, in good times and bad.
