Covenant House Florida reaches unhoused youth in Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando via street outreach, crisis shelters, transitional housing projects, and aftercare, making Covenant House Florida one of the largest private agencies serving runaway and homeless youth in the state of Florida.  

Youth Shelter and Housing

CHF’s shelter in Fort Lauderdale provides a safe haven for young people facing homelessness. We provide both short-term emergency care and transitional housing programs, including:  

  • Emergency Shelter: Here, young people receive a nourishing meal, clean clothes, access to urgent medical care and more. We are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to youth aged 18-22, including pregnant and parenting youth and their babies. 
  • Transitional Housing: Youth ready to transition toward independence can participate in our Rights of Passage (ROPAL) program, which provides up to two years of independent living in a furnished apartment for young people 18-24.  
  • Rapid Re-Housing: Rights of Passage 2 (ROPII) offers up to one year of housing assistance and supportive services, helping youth find apartments, cover initial costs, and ensure successful transitions.

We prioritize the safety and well-being of all our young people and provide unconditional support and assistance 24/7. Our staff is trained to ensure LGBTQ+ youth and all young people, receive services regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.

Our Programs and Services 

Beyond shelter, CHF provides comprehensive services and programs designed to help homeless youth either reunite with their families or develop the skills they need to achieve long-term stability and self-sufficiency.  

  • Street Outreach & Drop-in Services: Young people in Fort Lauderdale can access short-term emergency care including meals, hygiene supplies, street outreach HIV testing, and more.  
  • Healthcare Services: CHF offers on-site medical and mental health services to all youth who enter our shelter. This includes health screenings, pre/post-natal care, health education, substance use counseling, family therapy, aftercare and referral services.  
  • Education and Career Planning: We provide a GED program, life skills classes, job readiness training (Y.E.S.- Youth Enrichment Services) and access to internships. 
  • Parenting education: Our Circle of Security program supports pregnant youth and young parents with essential skills and knowledge on childbirth, parenting, child development and more. 
  • Additional support services including case management, family reunification, transportation assistance.  

Our Services and Programs Are Always Free 

Young people can access programs and services at Covenant House Florida for free. There are no costs or fees. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for youth to get the support they need.
