Visit Shelter HomepageWho we are: Covenant House New Jersey (CHNJ) provides sanctuary and support for youth ages 18-21 facing homelessness or human trafficking. We have seven locations across the state: Atlantic City, Newark, Jersey City, Camden, and Asbury Park, and specialized care in Montclair and Elizabeth. Across all our New Jersey sites, we serve about 4,585 youth annually, and all our services are free.
Our shelter: In Newark, CHNJ’s residential crisis center welcomes young people 24 hours a day, seven days a week, no questions asked. We provide them a safe haven where they can live while they resolve the issues that have blocked their way, work on a plan to transition to a stable living environment, and advance their life goals.
Our programs: Young people in Newark can access CHNJ’s short-term emergency care through our street outreach, drop-in center, and residential crisis center, where we provide a holistic spectrum of coordinated services. Our transitional housing program, Rights of Passage, and supportive apartment-living program bridge the gap for young people as they work, save money, and learn to live on their own.
