Covenant House PA vows to help residents of our Philadelphia homeless shelter establish a long-term resource of compassion, mentorship, and support. All of the services available and actions taken by representatives of the homeless shelter adhere to the Covenant House core values and Continuum of Care. Designed to create lasting change in the lives of homeless youth, the Covenant House Continuum of Care establishes a pattern of meeting immediate needs and following through with long-term support.
Our first step in reaching homeless and at-risk teens in Philadelphia is through Street Outreach, performed in vans and by foot by trained individuals. The Street Outreach program coordinates regular trips to areas that are commonly populated by Philadelphia’s homeless youth. Experienced members of our Street Outreach teams are our first point of contact with young people at Covenant House PA, offering food, counseling, and information to young people in need.
Living on the streets or in unstable housing can have long-term and short-term negative effects on a young person’s health. In partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania (CHOP) and the Green Tree Community Health Foundation, our Philadelphia homeless shelter proudly offers full health screenings to young people at Covenant House PA within a week of their arrival. From Orientation to send-off, our 3-month program helps abandoned youth feel at home and find the skills and confidence to create a home of their own.
