Covenant House Oakland Site - homeless shelters in california

Covenant House California (CHC) provides sanctuary and support for youth ages 18-24 facing homelessness and human trafficking. We have three locations: Oakland, Los Angeles, and Berkeley, where we serve more than 3,200 youth annually. Our programs and services are designed to advance youths’ physical, emotional, educational, vocational, and spiritual well-being and provide them with the best chance for success in independence. All our programs and services are free of charge.

Our Shelter

In Oakland, CHC’s emergency shelter immediately provides for youths’ basic human needs and urgent medical care. Young people receive a nutritious meal, take a shower with new personal care products, receive new clothes, and sleep in a warm, safe bed. They are then connected to supportive services that will help them thrive.

Our Programs

Young people in Oakland can access short-term emergency care through CHC’s street outreach, wellness center, and emergency shelter programs. We also provide longer-term support through our transitional housing program, Rights of Passage, and our supportive apartment program.
